Have you tried modelling the room response using REW or similar software? It could be that you have one or two room modes that are being more exposed now that you have speakers that extend deeper into the sub-bass region. If you're not familiar with REW I can model the response for you. All I need are the room dimensions, including ceiling height.

The problematic modes will be at 31Hz (longitudinal) and 75Hz (latitudinal).

Best positioning for the speakers is about 4 ft out from the front wall and 2.5 ft from side walls, with both dimensions measured from the centre of the front baffle. Best place to sit is 2.5 ft from the real wall. Damping the 31Hz mode will be difficult because it's such a low frequency, but trap the corners with the biggest traps, and trapping the mid points of the side walls will help damp the 71Hz mode.

Gotcha. I got the biggest traps from GIK x4 and some monsters too. Should have sufficient trap of <50hz.

Any news about the sound of the new 800D3? How does it progress?

My room is similar - 22 x 15 x 8.4, but because I listen on the short axis the primary bass mode is a little further up the spectrum. What does help is having a large sofa, but I also use some active eq to flatten the peak at 35-40Hz. In my case, a 2.5dB notch with Q=4 is optimum, and the response extends down to 20Hz before rolling off.

I think Joey's problem is the 31Hz mode, because the 800D3's are tuned lower and will have more energy below 40Hz than the 802D3's, and I don't think he had the same issue with his old 802D2's which have a higher Q tuning and more energy in the mid bass than his 800D3's.

Joey I think everyone is anxious to hear about your progress in integrating the 800D3 into your room versus the previous 802D3.

Due to the length of time it has taken you to comment on your progress, the 800D3 is apparently a much bigger challenge to integrate into certain rooms than the 802D3's, which has been previous discussed.

Would love to hear what progress has been made, and if you feel you will be able to dial them in where they are superior in all aspects to the 802D3 in your room.

Ah yes, the 800D3 has been more difficult to tame in-room.

Theoretically, the 800D3 is a better speaker in every facet compared to the 802D3, there is no question in my mind after my exhaustive research and demos.

The difference between the 800D3 and the 802D3 is WIDER THAN the difference between the 802D3 and the 803D3.

The voices are meant to be more transparent, the midrange cleaner, the imaging better and denser, the bass is a whole degree fuller and more realistic.

The issue I (and most who I've spoken to) have had in my room is bass control.

It was not simply a plop them and forget them. I clearly marked my old spots on the floor (where my 802D3 sounded it's finest).... and the 800D3 sounded HORRENDOUS for lack of a better term, in that exact spot.

I have come an extremely long way since first getting them. I have reworked the positioning and reworked the bass traps in the room.

Now, the system sounds very smooth and very linear. The bass has been tamed and the overall sound has been shifted in the right direction.

I am quite pleased with the sound.

That said, there are some reservations that I have with the upgrade. It has less to do with the speaker and more to do with the room (and the house and the wife) which I did not expect. I think there is also a bit of a difference in the "tuning" of the drive units... I believe that I was mistaken in the fact that I thought the 800D3 would converge and become as coherent as the 802D3 at "shallower/closer" listening distances.

Currently, the speakers are approximately 9 feet apart, I sit approximately 11 feet away.
