Shunyata Research Everest review in The Audio Beat
Quote:
Thanks for all the kind words from everyone. With respect to the issue of amplifiers and how they interact with the Everest, I am glad to share what I heard. For several years prior to auditioning the Everest, I ran my front end gear through a Denali 6000/T. I specifically chose NOT to plug my Conrad Johnson Premier SA350 amplifier into the 6000/T because, according to my ears, DTCD was better when using a wall outlet. Instead, I ran the SA350 through the Denali 2000/T (which is intended for amplification gear). The Conrad Johnson sounded faster and more immediate when hooked up to the 2000/T as opposed to a direct wall outlet connection. I should add that there was unanimous agreement among my local audiophile friends on that point. In my experience, the Everest outperforms even the 2000/T when it comes to dynamic transient current delivery (due in part to the Everest’s much larger QR/BB modules). The Conrad Johnson specs at 600 wpc into 4 ohms and while it’s connected to the Everest, there’s a sense of increased headroom and effortlessness I’ve never heard when it’s plugged directly into the wall outlet. Of course, other amplifiers may not respond in the same fashion. Hope that helps. |

Hi Vance,
the review was great. I loved the story of you first finding and hearing Shunyata. Can you comment on the degree to what you heard relates to the PC (Sigma or Omega) quite separate to the Everest itself? And if let's say a generic cord to Everest was not tested then would you say that really Everest is a system where it is assumed one will get the cord as well? |

Great question and a tough one to definitively answer. My conclusions in the review should be seen as a reaction to the Everest/Sigma XC combo. While I certainly heard a great many of the characteristics I described when I was using a Sigma NR, the Sigma XC absolutely brought the DTCD to another level. I’d think of Shunyata’s power cords as keys that unlock the Everest’s levels of potential. I would suspect that using a Venom HC with the Everest would only allow you access to the doorway of the lobby. I’m off the clock today, so my apologies to the analogy police. ;-) |

I've come to think of the Everest as a fuel injector (FI) system in a high-performance car. The Sigma and Omega XC act as the throttle body for the fuel injection system, and when you put the higher-spec cable on Everest, its like putting a larger throttle body on the FI system, you more get more power, torque, and instantaneous respone.

I had a couple of questions about this beauty I'm hoping folks might help with.
Can an amp and powered subs all be connected to the Everest without any diminished performance? I use a Gryphon Diablo 300 and Legacy Aeris, so each tower has a built in amp and the 300 draws some juice as well. Has anyone compared performance against a Synergistic Research UEF SE (also well recommended)? Thanks! |
