Steve, I think that if the manufacturer is unlucky enough to be supplied a faulty cap, it will blow regardless of who the manufacturer is. If you look inside your amp you might find the same brand of capacitor

Ha! OK I'll admit that MC2031s are not immune from arrest. Even MasterLu has had consequential damage from a tube incident recently.

In fact, approx 35% of my purchases over the years have not been 'quite right' requiring restitution of sorts.

...But it's nice to gloat the manufacturer's claims even if they are sometimes a bit of a stretch.

This is scary !
Especially for all amps where caps are not under a cover ( Manley for example....)

Jerome...you should make your kids and Narcissa wear protective head gear when in the room with you in case one of those caps decide to take flight and land on somebody's head

The odds of this occurring are 1:100,000,000.

Are you quoting Manley stats?

I had the nub on the bottom of an el 34 break and rotate so that i put it into the socket incorrectly. the tube blew in a noisy fashion which also took out the fuse on my music reference rm 9. when i called roger majeski up to congratulate him on making a pretty bullet proof unit he explained that not all designs are equal in this respect. i wold never have thought there was this much difference in designs. Reviews of new gear never touch blow up potential or aging issues. i would like to see more informatin on how gear ages especially speakers with all that mechanical movement going on.

I have a close cousin brand VTL amp that exhibits an important difference - the PS caps are screwed to the chassis via a clamp. The caps on the REF250 appear to be simply soldered in place.

Actually, my amps come with covers but I run them "topless".

I actually noticed there are some tubes rather close to caps in my Ref 2 SE, which is unfortunate as heat always has a negative effect on capacitor life…
