Did you have a chance to make a side by side comparison of the speakers? I'd be interested to know your impressions.

Hi Herb.
Yes I did do a side by side comparison. I used my reference cd Steely Dan redbook cd and played track 2-Aja. First thing I will say is Sonus Faber make incredible speakers. No matter what series you own, there is an elegance about them that is equally visual, audible and internal. That being said, the first difference I noticed was the increased space between instruments. Within the 1st few seconds of the intro, I remember looking at the speakers and thinking “what the hell-this sounds awesome”- like comparing a poorly recorded cd to a 24/192 hi rez file. Then came the bass. Stronger, more presence than with the GPD, it filled the room with authority. The relationship between the kick drum and bass guitar were felt in my chest at moderate volume. With the vocals, Donald Fagen’s voice sounded more neutral and natural. All in all, it was a completely and greatly improved listening experience. Don’t misunderstand me. If I didn’t have the ability to compare, I found little wrong with the GDP. I have enjoyed many long listening sessions with them over the past 3 years. The Cremona M’s just take it to a higher level. |

thanks, that's helpful. I've been thinking about upgrading from my B&W CM7s. The Cremonas are my dream speaker but I can't afford it yet. a pair of used GDPs would be doable although I'm not sure how much better than CM7s they'd be.
