Default Thank you, Bill!

The name "Sonus faber", depending on who you ask and how you interpret the Latin expression, means "handcrafted sound" or "the artisan of sound". How appropriate, then, that such a distinguished and well-respected company has the privilege of counting somebody like the no-less-distinguished Bill "metaphacts" Peugh in their ranks. I had the pleasure (and privilege) of having Bill over at my place last night. The excuse: to PROPERLY set-up my Sonus faber Toy Towers. Yes, even though we are talking about an entry-level Sf, Bill was gracious enough to donate his time and wisdom in order to make a happy camper out of me. I can not stress enough how grateful (and impressed) I am at this level of attention to detail and costumer satisfaction. In this day and age, such level of excellence is unheard of.

And the results? The word "transformational" comes to mind. Actually, my brain was bombarded by other, less sophisticated feelings and ideas once I experimented the change, such as "holy C$%^X!". No kidding. The speakers ended up about 2-3 inches from where they originally were (in other words... BIG difference), but lots of other aspects of the set-up changed as well, including toe-in degree, rake/toe levels and spike adjustment. The bass opened up and now digs deeper, the actual overall volume level increased BUT the "harshness" of the sound DEcreased immensely and the tone became purer, more natural, with a lovely "flow". The soundstage is now better-defined, more open in every direction, and vocals usually enjoy the "reach out and touch them" effect that I always wanted to achieve (but never could on my own). So, yes, what they say is true, my friends!

Bill might not "handcraft" nor "make" the actual speakers, but he sure does make them flourish, reach their maximum level of performance and SING. In this respect, he IS an "artisan of sound" indeed.

Thank you, Bill Peugh, for your time, expertise and courtesy. You know that you have a loyal Sumiko/Sf costumer in me.

Getting speakers set-up by a "professional" has always been something I've desired. It's good to hear that you have them dialed in now.

And as always,

Got any before and after shots?

Esteban,
What a great write up and how lucky you are !
Bill is surely an immense artist and I wish that I could see him perform his art one day.

Esteban thank you for the kind words and for your hospitality. My visit was long overdue. It was fun and really cool to be reminded of just how amazing the Toy Tower is. Your Prima Luna sounded like a perfect match! Have you had a chance to spin any vinyl? Looking forward to your thoughts.

Thanks again for letting me play.

Bill

Buying a top of the line speaker and not having it setup by a professional is a bad idea.... I believe this is one of the best "upgrades" you can get!

Afraid not. I will try and take some shots in the next few days. The blue tape indicating the previous position is still on the floor!

Planning on doing that all weekend, Bill!

Thanks again for making my humble speakers sound like anything BUT Toys! I can only imagine what a pair of Elipsas or Cremonas must sound like once properly dialed-in... Hopefully I will find out relatively soon... even though, I have to say, these little brothers of theirs are putting a big smile on my face right now!
