Default Amati Futura at RMAF
I was thrilled to finally get to hear these beauties at RMAF in the Sumiko room driven by Wadia digital equipment. Beautiful, with a beautiful sound, I nevertheless felt they were missing a bit of the, for lack of a better term, "magic" I remember hearing from the Amati Anniversarios.

I readily admit that may well be because the Futuras are more accurate than the Anniversarios were.

Anyone else who visited RMAF care to comment?

They were severely lacking in that room, I've now heard the Futura's in 5 different locations.

Unfortunately RMAF was the worst...

I am living with the Futuras and spent 2 hours one time listening to the wonderful Anniversarios. IMHO, the Futuras lack absolutely nothing and "Magic" is their forte. It had to be the room.

I agree with Ivan that a lot was the room. I heard them at SSI in Montreal with Boulder mono amps and they were awful in a terrible room; a few months later I heard them at a dealer in Montreal (the same one who set them up for the show) and they were terrific with a Boulder integrated.

But I also think the ARC DS450Ms had something to do with it. Class D technology is getting better, but I don't think it's quite up to the tube or Class A/B level yet.

Again, I was not overly impressed by the Futura's at RMAF. It is "possible" that they were set up to sound good for the wide listening area in the room rather than a standard seating position. I am not saying they sounded bad just not great.

It was my first experience with the Futura's at RMAF. I thought they were quite balanced. Good bottom. Dynamic - they can play loud. I found them to be overall very pleasant - but not exceptional in this setting.

The wide listening area might have been a bit too much for the speakers. If I remember correctly, they were at least 12 to 15 ft apart (guys correct me if I'm wrong).

Also, would have been good to listen to them with other amplification as well. I have the DS450 driving my Salon 2's with very good results. Whether these amps are a good match for the Futuras is a question.

The entire bottom end was missing; the Futura's are capable of incredible Bass, just ask Howard...

The bottom end of the Futuras love the 1.2KW's limitless food supply. Both the JL F113's have found nice new homes to live in.

Do note the Amati Anniversarios were rated at 24 Hz - 30,000 Hz.

The Amati Futuras are rated at 25 Hz – 30,000 Hz.

Yeah, I know, 1 Hz isn't even really audible, but it is indicative of a bit of a drop off in response.

Alas, my chances of actually hearing the Futura in a decent room is near zero unless it's shown again at RMAF 2012 in a better environment.
