I am a bit of a Nakamichi addict. I never owned the gold 1000zxl limited but had the 1000zxl. A superb deck for sure. But to my ears, the Dragon is the best sounding cassette deck.

The 1000zxl has a very similar sound signature to my 680zx. If you look at the tech specs, you can also read why this might be.

The ZX-9 is also superior to the 1000zxl in sound in my opinion.

All my Nak decks are from ESL and working perfectly so I think it is a fair comparison.

Yes the beauty of the Dragon and ZX-9 is the Clasic look like no other, built quality, functionality. Who needs an NR system, the clasic Nakamichi mechanish is like a swiss watch, hiss is so minimum that you can only hear it faintly in a low passage, close to a Studer.
