IWC makes great diving watches as well. I enjoyed my aquatimer for many years, trips and water activities. It was my go to watch for all vacations. I personally prefer the older styles of aquatimer and they can be found preowned for a very reasonable sum. Omega is a great value too.

Almost exclusively new from the same dealer. We've been great customers of theirs for years so we're well treated.

I'm thinking of dipping my toes in the vintage world mainly going after an old pepsi ...

I also own a few pieces and try to resist buying more. Probably what I will do gradually is sell all of them and get a Patek which in my opinion is the holy grail and probably the only brand that almost all models keep their value or even increase their value through the years. So yes maybe going “haute” helps curiing an obsession.

Interesting. More than VC or AP? Hmm... Where would you sell them? Trade them to a dealer or chrono24.com? Not many places to explore this in my neck of the woods. I bought a vintage IWC manual wind from a friend and a JLC while in Europe.
Giving this one some thought..... God those PP are something to behold.

PP, VC and AP are known as the holy trinity but PP is the king by a very far mile. In my opinion Langhe & Sohne is there as well. Chono24 is a good place to sell if you can not do it privately.

That and Rolex. Not the same positioning but you won't lose value with either of those.

Patek is on a class of its own above and beyond VC and AP. They are still at the forefront of innovation when it comes to complications. Though VC has stepped up its game lately.

Regarding value, I looked on Chrono24 to see the price for the JLC Master Compressor. It was my first watch bought now 10 years ago. I don't recall exactly the price paid but if I lost money it would be c. 1000€.
So 100€ yearly as cost of ownership is really not that bad in my book.

No. It may for a short time, maybe even a year or two. You might even be more selective on the next watch you'd get.... But the bug never goes away.

I’ve enjoyed a nice watch collection with a few Patek Phillipe, IWC, Lange and Sohne and a whole drawer of Rolexes. It was fun but at the end I still wore my Rolex Explorer II the most. Guess which one is the only one I still wear? Don’t get obsessed, pick a nice watch that you will enjoy wearing daily and wear the thing till it falls apart. Unlikely with a tank like Rolex.

I'm fairly settled for now, what with the home move. My C.Ward has an original movement nicely polished and should fit the bill for dress watches, plus it's a chrono, my skeleton for the aesthetic appeal, esp at night, and my cruddy tissot eta when I want a small watch with a old vibe.
