April Stereophile Sam Tellig review of Classic 60SE
In the latest edition of Stereophile there's a very favorable review of c-j's Classic 60SE amplifier by Sam Tellig. He goes into some nice detail, as well, on the KT-120 tube. It seems that Messrs. Conrad and Johnson like this tube a great deal in their amps.

The LP60 SE as well as the LP125m SE are also rated Class A in the same issue of Stereophile.

One interesting piece of information I got from the review is that the legendary GE 6550A also had a filament current of 1.8A. Since I used these in my Beard 10 years back it means I can use the KT120 in the Beard as well. The Beard should squeeze more than 100w out of a pair of these tubes. I was afraid to try them in the Beard until now.

Interestingly, if I'm reading the data sheet that Tube World has reproduced from the original Tung-Sol 6550, their 6550 draws 1.8 amps as well. |
