-- It's not "the next big thing" world anymore we live in, but the real constant improvement in picture quality technology.

- Yeah, 3D is not popular with average consumers, but it still has true 'dimensionality', immersing perspective.
{We're free to espouse it, or not; and it'll get better and better....}

-- 4K (and even 8K) are real. ...Not the "next big thing", but true picture quality advancement.

--- HFS (Higher Frames per Second) is also real;, another technical advancement in the world of moving pictures (Cinema).

* All for the BEST pleasure of your EYES.

At NAB 2012 there was just a bit of talk regarding H.265, with 4K Cinema having been around for quite awhile.

With NAB 2013 coming again in April, I suspect much more chatter. We'll see.

Last year, Black Magic Design introduced a 2.5k Digital Cinema Camera at a dirt cheap price, and there are many other 4K Digital Cinema Cameras, (Sony, Red, Canon etc) some of these are literally "dirt" cheap compared to just a few years ago.

4K content in many respects is the easy part, the storage and transmission is where the pain sets in for broadcasters/content creators/distributors etc.

H.265 goes a long way in helping this, whether 1080P, Improved 3D, 4k, or more lower resolution capability in the same channel space, H.265, if it is what it's claimed to be, will surely be an "enabling technology" for 4K... but ask me mid-April..(After NAB2013) Who knows what the "next big thing" might be by then.
