I decided not to wait for two main reasons:

1) My dealer offered me a full refund for my C-2810, and was interested to do that then not 1-2 years afterwards.

2) The C-3800 is an aniversary version, that from a technological point of view is still very far ahead of the C-2820. First, the AAVA circuit in C-2820 is not fully balanced like the one in C-3800. Second, the C-2820 does not have anywhere near the power reserves the C-3800 has. Third, the C-2820 does not appear to be fully biased in class A like C-3800 is. Consequently, I felt the C-3800 will not be updated after 5 years, especially since "lesser" products like the DP-700 had life cycles of almost 6 years.

I have friends who argue that the C-3800 pre will never be updated as it is an anniversary edition. I do not believe that. My theory is that the evolution of C-3800 will be significantly more expensive. One one hand, the price increase will justify the further technological advances which are not really needed at the moment. On the other hand, an increase in price will "align" the evolution of C-3800 with the rest of the Accuphase 40 years anniversary components which are all significantly more expensive than the C-3800 pre.
Yes I did. Suzuki is a cool guy. He gives you a straight answer unlike some other companies. Wow, full refund on the C-2810? That's one Hell of a deal. Anyway, enjoy your new baby. That should really be something else. I bet you can't wait, unless you have it already!

Default New C-3800 is on the way

Enquiring from my dealer about the C-3800 with more XLR inputs the major factor spurring this on, I was told that I could not buy the C-3800.

A replacement model is due, and looking at the M-6200 showing, the release of a new pre-amp makes some sense.

As to if, but more when, is still an unknown, but May 2015 is a significant cultural event for Japan, it's only my speculation at this time.

Interesting, thanks for the news...

Does anyone think the C-2420 due for replacement? I forgot how old of a model it is...thanks.

It was introduced in 2012.

Thanks for the interesting news One-and-a-Half! If the dealers have been informed already that the C-3800 pre is discontinued, then the new top-of-the-line Accuphase pre-amp will indeed be release very soon. All we can do now is to wait patiently and, of course, make speculations about its name. My guesses for a name are:

1) C-3810 (if Accuphase is willing to acknowledge a relative minor upgrade)
2) C-3900 (the most likely name in my opinion)
3) C-4800 (if we talk about an entirely new and significantly superior design)

Luckily with Accuphase you get a reasonable amount back for your old gear.
Hi Olaf, I've bought the C-3800 pre because I know very well the nature of the beast. That is, my plan was to buy something that I will not afford to upgrade anytime soon. The C-3800 pre, like my 4.5 years old daughter, will not leave my house anytime soon.

Regarding my invitation to listen the DG-48 unit, I did not forget about it. Unfortunately, my house is currently in no state for receiving guests as the renovation work is still ongoing. I'll keep you posted when we are done, but for the time being I gave up making predictions when that will be.

Hi Paul,

No problem, I am off to Australia next week in a 8x2 rotation, whenever it suits yourself let me know, If I am in Holland I will visit your great system :-)

I am in anticipation of getting the measurements of the apartment that I will get in Australia, planning to get a stereo set up there also (if the apartment size is feasible to do so), at the moment thinking about Magico Q1/S1 with Devialet 400, or A70/C3800 directly ordered from Japan, but that will leave me to change the voltage myself.

I am thinking more about this then the job I have to do there, haha.
