As I would like to allocate the greater part of my speaker + amp budget to the speakers, my plan is to go with the least expensive Accuphase amp, and I *think* I can get away with it because as an apartment dweller I don't listen to music at very high levels, low and medium is the norm for me.

This leaves the question for speakers, what do you recommend? I have a soft spot for British monitor type speakers such as Spendor, Harbeth or Stirling Broadcast, but I am not limited to this. It's obvious that given the low power of the A-36, a speaker with high sensitivity is probably preferable.

Looking forward to your comments!

Best,
Samuel.

I would recommend JBL Synthesis or Tannoy Prestige. Out of the two, I think you will like the Tannoy more, since it is a British speaker. Both are high sensitivity.

You should think twice before dispensing with your ATC SCM 100 Active speaks I sold my SCM 50 Actives about 5 years ago, and regretted the decision for a long time. You would have to dig deep inyour pockets to match that combo's unbelievable dynamics and bass performance.

Given your preference I think Tannoys Kensignton GR would be fantastic. The Tannoy's would have a similar accurate balance than your ATC's, with great sensitivity, ideal for the A36.

Ckeck out this review relative to the Harbeth M40.1, which is another great option.

6moons audio reviews: Tannoy Kensington GR

While I do have a soft spot for traditional, old fashioned design, the Tannoy Prestige models are a bit too much for me - though I have to admit that I have never seen (let alone heard) one in the flesh.

I am very well aware of that - and objectively there is nothing wrong with the ATCs. It's just that Acccuphase ownership does funny things to your head ... and not so funny things to your wallet!

Out of interest, what did you go for after the ATCSs?

Hi Vin, Esoteric MG20 Speakers and Burmester 051 Integrated. It's a pity Esoteric discontinued the MG20'S. I thought they were the very best at the price. I would have kept the Esoterics, but could not resist when I found a fantastic deal on Vivid Audio K1 speakers. I have not yet heard any system that does justice to John Lee Hooker's Best of Friends as the ATC's did. Good luck with your new system
