Yeah, the ASFM I saw was definitely a chamber orchestra suitable for pieces from the Classical period and before.

Thanks for the report. And what a splendid venue! I read that it is one of those grand pre-Depression cinema and vaudeville palaces that folks like you still have the benefit of enjoying.

RCA Living Stereo Hybrid SACD Limited Edition Series from Analogue Productions

Absolutely magnificent performance and sound quality. Hard to believe this is a 50+ year-old recording. This Analogue Productions SACD provides startling clarity and transparency and of course the CSO plays magnificently. A great release.
This recording does not get old. Not sure why, but today it's sounding better than ever.

Scarlatti: 30 Keyboard Sonatas
John Browning, piano
Nimbus 1994

A very nice recording. Browning's playing is impeccable, if a bit dry. On some of these sonatas he seems to hammer the keys as if he were playing a harpsichord, with little inflection. Otherwise a good performance.

Vladimir Horowitz: Scarlatti
CBS Masterworks 1987

Once more, with feeling...more sonatas, but compared to Browning a breath of fresh air. Horowitz's playing is incomparable.

Analogue Productions Hybrid SACD

Superlative playing from the CSO in a vintage RCA Red Seal recording from 1958. Beautifully remastered by Analogue Productions in 2014, the recorded sound is spectacular making this a rewarding SACD treat.
I'm enjoying these classic Analogue Productions remasters lately. What a sonic treat!
