But expensive be like $90 -100 per 4ft shelf. If I stand up 1x4's and make it in butcher block style. Just have to figure out legs. Maybe stack em with points on each shelf like a vti rack it would be a heavy beast if they were all connected. And couldnt come apart. Lots of options
In the larger cities, there are usually dealers who supply cabinet-makers in the surrounding area. As mentioned earlier, ask your local cabinet shops who they use. I have had one dealer ship wood to me for free (350 miles sway) since I was on one of his regular routes.

You can get dimensioned woods (already planed and sized to standard dimensions - like you find at your local depot store) considerably cheaper than the local shops. You can also get planks in various stages of processing. If you own your own planer and jointer, you can save a bundle by buying rough-cut wood (kiln-dried but otherwise straight from the sawmill). They will usually have rough-cut with one straight edge so you have something to work off of when planing/jointing, etc. Whether rough or dimensioned, you can get hardwoods up to several inches in thickness. The big suppliers usually have catalogs they will send you for free so you can see what is available and get a good idea of your costs.
