They are introducing another chassis design? It seems as if it was only yesterday that the Scarlatti was released.

Isn't that the truth --

"The 2009 Scarlatti system replaces dCS's combo of Verdi SACD/CD transport, Purcell D/D converter, and Elgar Plus DAC and adds a master clock unit developed from the 2005 year (or so +/-) Verona.

One particular print mag stated this about the Scarlatti at the time -- "Calling the Scarlatti an SACD/CD player is like calling the Hubble a telescope."

The dCS folks in Cambridge aren't sitting on their butts checking their account balances, that's for sure.

Anyone want to chime in (??)

Have a question as to why the Scarlattti Transport has a much larger chassis than the other 3 components. Is it because it uses the top-of-the-line Esoteric VRDS NEO™ mechanism, which necessitates the larger chassis?

The end result, with the larger Transport chassis, when stacked & with its Space Odyssey 2001 appearance, I'm sort of turned off by its visual presentation. Definitely not as appealing to the eye as is Puccini and Ms. Paganini. Someone recently told me the Scarlatti looks more like studio equipment, which when I think about it is so true.

Now, we have the dCS Vivaldi. Take a look at its transport, Holy Moly, talk about being pregnant. At least from the display, it appears to have the same width as the other 3 components which is a great drift away from the 'non-matching chassis footprint' of Mrs. Scarlatti.

The Vivaldi has some interesting curves; if the polish is there maybe some potential exists, however; the display is also lacking some aesthetics for me.

For the record, dCS names their product line after famous Italian composers, violinists, guitarist, etc.

Here's a condensed bio of "Vivaldi":

"Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (4 March 1678 – 28 July 1741), nicknamed il Prete Rosso ("The Red Priest") because of his red hair, was an Italian Baroque composer, priest, and virtuoso violinist, born in Venice. Recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers, his influence during his lifetime was widespread over Europe. Vivaldi is known mainly for composing instrumental concertos, especially for the violin, as well as sacred choral works and over 40 operas. His best known work is a series of violin concertos known as The Four Seasons.

Many of his compositions were written for the female music ensemble of the Ospedale della Pietà, a home for abandoned children where Vivaldi worked from 1703 to 1715 and from 1723 to 1740. Vivaldi also had some success with stagings of his operas in Venice, Mantua and Vienna. After meeting the Emperor Charles VI, Vivaldi moved to Vienna hoping for preferment. The Emperor died soon after Vivaldi's arrival, and the composer died a pauper, without a steady source of income.

Though Vivaldi's music was well received during his lifetime, it later declined in popularity until its vigorous revival in the first half of the 20th century. Today, Vivaldi ranks among the most popular and widely recorded Baroque composers."
