I can also heartily recommend the Ortofon Cadenza Black. I am at about 50 hours on my Cadenza Black, and it is extremely impressive, and opening beautifully as it breaks in.
Dan,
Thanks.. the dealer even took a little off the price of the TT-PSU and is shipping both out for free, so it's ending up to be quite a good deal.

I may or may not opt for the Lyra...someone else wrote me that it may be too much a good thing on the P5, and a big, meaty, weightier cartridge might be the sweet spot. I'd be interested in the Cadenza Black, but it's a bit out of my price range...and it might be overkill to put a $4000 cartridge on a table that's costing me $950. It's also a bit tall-bodied, and I might need some Rega VTA spacers for the arm to get the VTA right. I'd even consider a MM like the Clearaudio Maestro Wood. We'll see. In honor of the P5 purchase, I'm listening to my Rega Planar 3 right now with the Grace F9 Ruby and the Premier 17, and sounds well...pretty luscious, I gotta say. So, the Grace may be on the P5 for a little while until I decide on something, the Grace will likely go on first, then after that, I will give the Shelter 501 MkII a try.

But finding a cartridge instead of the Grace or Shelter are lower priorities. First, I need to find another phono stage...preferably something higher performing than the EAR834P (which is no slouch), but with 2 phono inputs (sorry, Jerome, an ARC Ref 2 is right out). If I can find one of those, then I can use the EAR for the Clearaudio Concept mono deck.

When I had my P5 I used the Rega Exact cartridge - a nice match for that level of TT. A Dynavector DV20XH would be a good match too. You made the right choice by getting the TTPSU. Enjoy your new TT - a great value BTW.

Stephen,

Congratulations on the Rega P5 purchase. Should look very nice with the 3.4's!
The Rega flu is starting to spread on AA and everyone seems to be very happy

Stephen,

You won't be surprised to hear that I also recommend the Exact !
And Dave too I suppose !
I know that you 're a MC believer but you should really hear the Exact on a Rega arm. Don't be fooled by its relative low price tag.

HFN August 2008- Rega P9 / RB1000/apheta/Ios phonostage
Editor's Choice
HFN verdict 85/100
''Yes this player system is a tour de force......it is a spectacularly good value.

Philippe,
The "roast beefs" like their gear as much as the "frogs" like theirs !
Does not mean so much to me.
They just defend their economy and that is a good thing !

Yes, they like everything....
I don't often read an average review of a product. Too bad because we could learn a lot !
