I like the touch of wood. Those all-acrylic turntables never did it for me. I am glad that Clearaudio decided to warm the design up a bit. I also like the new VPI classic with the wood plynth.

My experience has been the CA tables work equally as well with third party arms as well as thier own.....really comes down to what your after sound wise....

The touch of wood is nice.....just enough to soften things up without trying to look too vintage.....I like more modern styling myself.

I love my Clearaudio Innovation Wood. I bought it with the Graham Phantom B44 II 10" arm. I think this is how Musical Surroundings (NA dist) says it plays best. I just received a schick 12" arm that I am mounting on the other pod to run miyajima premium mono be cartridge (thomas schick provided the arm specs and CA built a custom arm board. CA can provide just about any arm board necessary for non-CA tonearm. I like the outer peripheral ring but wish CA made the inner top part out of soft material for few times cartridge cues too close and stylus contacts the steel ring!

The stylus or cartridge body? If the latter double check your VTA.

dpod4.....If your refering to when you drop the arm and the stylus contacts the inner edge of the ring then it sounds like you need to pay more attention where the stylus is going to land.....to me wheather its metal or a soft material on the inside edge of the ring, dropping the stylus and landing on the ring is not good.....

Ivan.....Provinding the cueing mechanism is raising the stylus above the ring to clear it I don't see how VTA comes into play.....maybe I'm missing something but he mentioned inner part of the ring so I assume the stylus is clearing the top of the ring and he is dropping the arm not far enough into the LP....

sometimes it lands on the record but the weight of the ring right next to beginning of record can pull the stylus back. It never drops right on the ring.

Jeff... My Goldfinger VTA had to be raised ever so slightly to avoid the body of the cartridge from touching the inner ring on the first track of some vinyl.

If its severe check your anti-skate....may be too much and you need to back off a bit....if all checks out then just drop the arm a bit further in.

I had Kurt Doslu at Echo Audio set up my table (he teaches courses on analog set up) so I'm pretty sure the anti-skate is fine, and have noticed no other indications that anti-skate is an issue. I'm just committed to having the needle not drop into the music, but have learned to cope with some records that don't have much of a lead in to drop into the music.
