Default Anyone here did the step from Niagara 1000 to 5000?

Hi there!

I made so much updates this year... The final (...) update in winter should be the step from Audioquests Niagara 1000 to 5000.

From wall to PC via Hurricane.
From PC to Amp Hurricane.
From PC to Pre WW Silver Electra 7 (will be changed to Hurricane too).
From Wall to Sub Thunder, will be upgraded to Tornado.
From Pre to Amp Audioquest Fire.
To Pre from a HTPC via Audioquest Carbon HDMI.
To Speakers Audioquest Redwood. (Now Oak till approx September.)
So there's nothing more i can do within my limited financial power.

Anyone here who can describe what's better then and how much the impact will be? Will it be an improvement or an (somewhat) huge improvement?

I have no first hand experience with the Niagara series but have researched them pretty extensively. My understanding is that the 1000 provides some basic protection and filtering but that the 5000 operates at an entirely different level. So going from the 1000 to 5000 should be a pretty significant sonic upgrade (to us audiophiles.) Power devices can be quite dependent upon the specific gear connected as well as the quality of your incoming power, so I'd strongly suggest an in home audition of the 5000 to ensure that the level of improvement in your system justifies the expense. It really doesn't matter how it performs for others, the only way to know for sure is to hear it in your system. So either a dealer you have an established relationship with that can loan you a demo or sell you a 5000 with a money back evaluation period would serve you well. Good luck and please keep us informed whatever you decide.

Does the Niagara 7000 filter DC power off the line? I'm getting a little DC hum in my Mc amp. Mc told me to look for DC power with a meter. I have some DC coming in, but it's below the threshold I was told to look out for.

Here is a Niagara 5000 with a Tornado, since approx 3 hours playing. As a rental device.
Previously: Niagara 1000 with Thunder.
It was really audible right away. Everything was much more spacious and tidier. And it seemed a little more upbeat. I like it! Very much!

New here is now also a Cambridge Edge NQ. Quasi a digital preamplifier, but strictly designed for stereo. The part is brand new. I miss the subwoofer output a bit. My WEL cable is RCA. But I need XLR now, so I can connect the sub ADDITIONALLY. Now I am helping myself to use an older Fadel Art Reference One XLR. That's not as good as the WEL, of course. And also the USB connection is something very very cheap and so it is a bit difficult to judge how big the progress is to my Rotel preamp RSP-1572. The Rotel is a AV-PreAmp.

Oh, great.

Oh, and the 7000... Yes, it SHOULD filter off any DC-offset due to the two toroidal transformers. They act like an isolating transformer.

(The 5000 is 5000 Euros, the 7000 approx 8950. 1 Euros = 1,14 USD. Here in Europe everywhere tax is included. So it should translate 1:1 European to US-Market.)

If you are thinking of the AudioQuest 7000. The PS Audio P20 should also be in your thoughts.
I do not know if it is a lot more in EU or not though.
