I just ordered brand new fabric covers from Magnepan for MGIII's. It is nice that you can still get parts for 23 year old speakers.

Default Martin Logan Summits and Magneplanar Tympani IV

I have owned most of the Magneplanar speakers and some
Martin logan electrostatics, and never liked the Maggies midrange
and lack of coherence and imaging. Likewise the Martin Logan's
lack of mid to low bass impact and integration. I now combine
the two using the Martin Logan electrostatic (Summits, woofers
not connected) with the Magneplanar Tympani IV bass panels
(modified) and the results are awesome. I also extend the low
bass down to 1 hz with the Eminent Technology TRW-17
Rotary Subwoofer. All these speakers together are coherent,
imaging is fabulous, depth, detail, power and just plain
realistic. From a whisper to a Saturn V rocket. this combo
does it all.

I spent about 30 minutes listening to his panels and amps at last years RMAF. Very interesting guy. As I remember the price for panels and amps was very reasonable and the sound was very listenable.

Panel Lover reporting in...

I am running a 5.1 system as my main rig for multichannel SACDs/DVD-As. My mains are a pair of 1.6s, the rears are a pair of SMGcs and I have a MGCC-1 for the center.

I got hooked on the Maggies many many years ago when I walked into a dealer and heard this symphony orchestra playing in the rear of the building. At least, it sounded like there was a symphony back there.

I walked to the rear of the store and in a large, almost totally empty room stood a pair of 2001-esque monoliths. I was dumbfounded. I was literally walking around one of the panels in circles (and likely looking way too much like one of the apes in the aforementioned film) when the owner of the store came into the room.

He asked me if he could help me, and I peppered him with questions about what in the world those speakers were - I totally forgot why I had gone in there in the first place. Thus was an addiction born.
