In a few days, I'm dropping the prices on Audiogon to $12.5K for the Sinhonias and $17.5K for the 301. If you buy them both I will pay shipping and the Paypal fee. Just wanted to give everyone on this board a little advance notice in case you are a serious buyer and was on the fence regarding these items. Thanks.

New toy - Shindo Monbrison preamp

IMHO, the previous era Monbrison/Shindo units exemplify true class. I have to agree with the others here; the new models don't quite have the same level of visual appeal. The old ones are truly beautiful to both the eyes and ears. The beauty of the internal circuitry and aesthetics in this Shindo era are second to none.
Aesthetics are subjective, so I won't discuss that, other than to say that Shindo is an artist, and will do as he sees fit. The actual gear looks superior in person than photographed on Shindo's website. Refer to my site for better photos of the entire lineup, through my various posts.

In regards to beauty of the internal circuts, the equipment coming out of Shindo Labs today is at a level beyond reproach. Again, refer to my site for some snippets of internals. Of course, lucky owners already know all this. I'm always amazed at every piece of equipment I receive in for my customers.. Shindo-San has an enthusiasm and zeal for creating these products and it's currently at a higher plane of perfection than I thought possible.

Best,
-M

I really need to hear Shindo products for myself......overheard a convo in an audio shop the other day and the jist of it was that altough Shindo is built decent and looks good......its "Sound"is old&dated and extreamly overrated.......it reminded me what some people say about Mcintosh LOL .....but you know what they say about opinions.......everyone has one............but i so want to hear this brand for myself...

Michael,

Maybe describing the Shindo house sound is a bit like describing wine (which might explain the model names)... that is to say to talk too much about it kind of gets in the way of drinking it. I've owned and enjoyed quite a few 'old fashioned' sounding tube amps over the years but just not sure that is the way I'd necessarily characterise the qualities of the little green boxes tho...

I've just got the baby of the preamp line, an Auriges L and it exhibits airy extended highs that crown the sound, a well fleshed out mid range that is lithe and not in the least bit overblown or flabby, and a tuneful, dynamic and authoritive bass that (from memory I think) Serge described as having a fantastic wet quality rather than an anonymous one note thud. The amp exhibits no grain, the background silence is a deep black which looks just lovely encased in it's lusty green enamel :-)

I sometimes think that the kind of devotion and occasional fervour that Shindo gear seems to engender can tend to be a little polarizing for some but the reality is it's just one of those brands that seems to embody something a little extra, a musicality and an ability to capture and convey the emotional content and spirit of a performance.

There are many people on this site with a heap more experience with Shindo gear who would probably better direct you to the exact nature of it but for me it's a kind of pared back sound, fleshy, alive, honest and immediate... just a bit more whole and soul...

... and so while I usually avoid getting too caught up with cults and abducted by aliens I also tend to be a bit of a devotee to my little green box simply because it makes me feel happy so often, well devoted enough that it's most likely only to be replaced by another slightly larger green box eventually...

Thankfully it is none too mystical... it's not like that Sufi thing about which nought can be said... it's maybe just easier to listen to it than it is to talk about it... matter of fact I'm listening to it right now

Graham
