Default Group Cooking Suggestions

Ok, folks. Need some advice. This weekend Mel and I are invited to friends who love to create a meal with everyone pitching in. Something creative. Last time we got out the Kitchen Aide Sausage attachment and made very nice boudin blanc.



That was their suggestion, and it was fun, I must admit.

Now it's our turn. We need to come up with a meal that four persons can prepare, but something that is creative and not run of the mill, such as what I really want, which is a nice New York, rare, backed potato, spicy stir-fried green beans....

Anyway. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

We love doing designer pizzas. You supply some wild ingredients and everyone has fun mixing and matching sauces and toppings to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

This is definitely not NY, rare, backed baked potato but an excellent meal if you like Asian, and one that will require the help of everyone -- steamed pork & beef (sui-gyoza) from scratch (actually steamed & then pan fried for a couple minutes only). Served with a tangy chili dipping sauce (scratch made) and served side dish recommendations could be steamed rice, pickled cabbage, miso soup or whatever you fancy.

The preparation for ingredients to make 40-50 pork/beef gyoza is not a wham-bam deal & can take an hour with others helping -- then the actual process in making them using wrappers (aka Shanghai dumpling wrappers) and then steaming/pan frying.

Or something very different in the USA is cooking/serving dinner using a Raclette. A great conversation piece and fun/conversation around the table. Everyone we have had over for a meal using the Raclette have never seen one before (bought ours in Switzerland; but, available in the USA now).

But will have to have gluten free for one person. I'll try to find a recipe for that.

I'm definitely in for this! I'll practice first, though. I once tried to roll my own California rolls. What a mess. Tasted great though.

Agree. I would think it'd do fine.

BTW, they are based outside of Portland and give tours of their facilities, which I should take one day. A very well respected company. I just bought some of their gluten free cornbread mix and pancake mix. Tasty.

Nice suggestion.

The Raclette is interesting -- top area for frying or warming and the lower area for broiling (basically) -- melting cheeses over items placed in each of the small spatulas (each person has their own spatula and prepares whatever their fancy from what is available on the table).

Quite the fun and uniqueness of a casual & friendly dinner affair.

P.S. I usually place something under the rackette to protect from the heat generated -- not that it gets 'oven' hot underneath -- but to be safe rather than sorry & have a damaged table top.
