Recommended power handling for PMC
I thought I'd compile a little power handling list for you guys. Our speakers sing with power but can do it with modest power as well...
DB1i - up to 150w, we've actually hooked this up with a 14B! It sounded like an OB1! TB2i - up to 200w GB1i - up to 150w FB1i - up to 250w OB1i - up to 300w PB1i - 200-600w EB1i - 200-800w IB2i - 200-500w MB2i - 200-800w BB5i - 200-800w This can be the reference for all.

Ian.......Thank you for the reference. I had searched the PMC sites for this information when I first purchased my EB1i's, and could not find any recommended power suggestions. I contacted Samantha, and was told the story about the MC1.2kw amps and the EB1i's being demonstrated at Audio Classics, where the amps were flashing their Power Guard lamps at 1200+ watts, and the EB1i's singing right along. Even after having the story, no one at PMC provided a recommended power rating. I appreciate you providing it.

Obviously these are conservative recommendations... With the DB1i handling a 14B, and the EB1i owning the 1.2kw, you can pump a good bit of juice into the i-series.

Lyle.......The thought has crossed my mind, and I know it has yours, too. I am completely satisfied with my MC501's, so other than curiosity I don't dwell on the thought. I also think if you decide to part with the new Ayre MX-R's for MC1.2kw amplifiers, you might also need to aquire a building permit for a large dog house.

Not another 501's vs 1.2Kw debate. Both are great amps. Is it worth selling the 501's and jumping up to the 1.2 Kw? Increased soundstage and dynamics. I know I will never or hardly ever listen to my system over 50 watts on my 501's. Is the gain to cost ratio good enough? Who am I kidding, if given 1/2 a chance I would do it. |

After listening to the EB1i's on the 501's and the 1.2Kw's. I can not justify selling my 501's.
