Another option is the Amplitrex AT1000. I have this unit. It supports more tube types & you can hook it up to a PC to plot graphs & create reports.

It is more expensive though, however if you are looking at buying both MaxiMatchers, the Amplitrex may be a suitable alternative depending on your needs.

Steve.......The grand total including shipping for my MaxiMatcher 2 and MaxiPreamp 2 testers was $1704.00. The Amplitrex AT1000 is $2675 plus shipping, so it is still more than a $1000.00 more when all is said and done. I considered the Amplitrex AT1000 but decided against it primarily due to the poor software support owners have reported, and by poor it is said there is no software support or updates for the errors reported. That was a turn off for me. As a stand alone tube tester, the Amplitrex has received good reviews, but it appears the software side of it needs help.

You are right about the software. It works & it generates the correct report output but there a syntax errors that are not handled properly. The user interface also needs some work. Overall, minor issues but still can be an annoyance.

The software was written by an electronics engineer, better versed with low level programming methodologies not 4GL. Their priorities have been with the hardware. Amplitrex develop other testing equipment for tube manufacturers as well. More of their resources are probably spent there.

I offered them some free time to go through the source code, make a few fixes & recompile being well versed with the software development language & platform. They were more interested in outsourcing the software support function, but I guess the economic demand has not been justifiable to commit expenditure for that. So it has been left in an unsupported state & as such the software continues to be offered for free with the unit.

Despite this, the hardware is a fabulous piece of engineering.

Can one use the Amplitrex T1000 without using the software ?
Maxi Matcher is a no no for me. I ordered one a few years ago and it never reached my home with a very poor communication with the company.
They received the profuct back and waited a few weeks before making the refund, actually they waited me to threaten them of making the problem public on AA.

Jérôme .......I am sorry to hear of the shipping issue and refund delay with your MaxiMatcher tube tester. MaxiTest LLC is not a big company, just four guys trying to wear all the hats. Although the ground shipping from Seattle to north Florida took two weeks, I am pleased with their products.

Jerome...Yes, using the software with the Amplitrex AT1000 is totally optional. You do not have to plug it into a PC to use it & I rarely do. I typically just want to test the tube & get the results on the LCD, that's it.

Ok, Thanks Steve. I have to check all the tubes I'm using to see if I need to order optional adapters and will order the Amplitrex.
Too bad we cannot find those on the used market. It costs the price of a MC225 !

Never seen a used one anywhere. There could be a wait on build time, depending on stock.

Depending on how much one wishes to spend on a Tube Tester there is also a budget option called the "Orange VT1000 Valve Tester" it is $ 499 and is of course much more basic then the more expensive versions listed here , but it seems to get the job done albeit more basically then the high end ones.

After researching a bit, looks like a great option!
