What color is the glow? If the glow is yellow in nature, the color of an incandescent filament, then heater voltage may have gone high. I am not sure but if the filaments/heaters are AC powered the transformer may have failed. If the filaments are DC powered, possibly the regulator supplying the voltage may have changed for whatever reason. If the color is blue, which I doubt, then the tubes may have gone gassy.

I followed up this decision buying another MC275mkvi. I figure if I'm going to make a bad decision I'll make two at once LOL. 2 weeks till delivery of both.

I'm going to do some testing back to back to decide what I like.

This is what I'm going to do, convert some stereo music to mono . . .

Have my computer feed the music to the amps through a USB DAC

Install one MC275 on the right channel with one channel only (75W), and one other marantz amp on the left channel.

Move the L/R balance around to isolate which speaker is playing to do a pure A/B comparision.

I can then repeat this test with the MC275 in Mono mode (150W).

Then lastly install the MC275, and compare one speaker on mono (150W) vs. one speaker on single channel (75W)

I figure it will be a fun test to really see what sounds best in my room

A question for all the experts out there, since this is my first tube amp, what is the life of the tubes typically in hours?

I will be interested to see how the tubes in my MC275 MkVI that i received in August this year compare with the Audio Research D70 it replaced. The D70 was purchased new in 1989 and still uses the original low signal and driver tubes. The original GE 6550s did not last more than a couple of years, however the winged "C"s that were installed about 19 years ago still function. I suspect the d70 is due to have all the tubes replaced. The reason I mention this is that tube life varies a lot depending on the quality of the tube. I also suspect that I should get a tube checker.

Dali230.......You are in the MC275 club.

There is a lot of love for the McIntosh MC275 power amplifier. It is a sweet sounding amp that has stood the test of time.
