Yes. That is what I understand from both CKirmuss and MFremer. Restoration is a different process and considerably more time consuming.

Thanks Glenn....that puts the Kirmuss back in the running.

I wouldn't buy anything from the guy. Too much BS.

If you're willing to ignore the 'Kirmuss method' (I would) and if price is the primary concern you can put together a 6L ultrasonic tank and record rotisserie for less than $500. Use some Ilford Ilfotol as a wetting agent and surfactant. To optimize further, you can use your VPI HW27 for a distilled water rinse and dry.

This is an example, not an endorsement; there are others:
Tank at Amazon
Rotisserie

edit: Consider all of these 'systems' as consumables. The cavitators or the tank will fail eventually according to amount of use.

Yes......... I'm also leaning toward a Kirmuss followed by my CA RCM for the distilled water rinse/vacuum dry.

Fremer just reiterated his statements about the Kirmuss cleaning system in his review of the Degritter (not Nitty-Gritty, as I originally said) US-cleaner in the Jan '21 issue of Stereophile.

The Kirmuss system is a joke IMHO. Any record that takes about 30 to 40 minutes to "clean" is a record I'm not sure I would be interested in playing. It's like cooking a complex recipe. Takes too long and by the time it's ready you're no longer hungry for it.

The ultrasonic market is basically halved between the Audiodesk and the newer Degritter now that Klaudio has left the scene.

I'll be sticking with my ancient VPI 16.5 cleaner with L'art Du Son solution and a bunch of distilled water. As far as static, hit it with the ZeroStat and static is gone.

Plus, the clear audio, which is a heckuva unit (at least I think it is, but I have to say I don’t own it).

So much misinformation.
The Kirmuss does not take 30-40 minutes to "clean" a record. That is their 'restoration' process, which Fremer speaks highly of.
The normal 'clean cycle' is 2 minutes. Which Fremer also speaks highly of, as recent as his January '21 column in Stereophile.
