A "small" update to my set-up:
After a week of testing and trying, I had to say goodbye to the Esoteric X-03SE. There was no match with my system, it sounded harsh and way to much in my face. Must be the rest of my system as on paper this is a great player, just not in my system

Anyway, yesterday I replaced my loaner ML no.26 with my own Pass X2.5 and now I'm on the hunt for another cd player to make my collection complete again (the Sugden PDT-4 in the pictures is a loaner from a friend)

Current state at my place:

Next step is to update my rack so it all looks nice and tidy again.
After I found "my" cd player I would like to add a Pass Xono to the stack and after that just be happy (and save for a VPI Classic )

Today I had a dedicated powerline installed with a GigaWatt circuit breaker and a GigaWatt wall socket.
After just a few seconds it was clear to me, this is a major improvement in sound. So I went upstairs to fetch my Esoteric and give it another try in my set-up and BAM! there it was, beautiful sound, coherent, warm, detailed, huge sound stage, etc. This Esoteric player does work in my system
Even with my Yter cables the sound is warm and involving (Esoteric and silver don't seem to be the best of mates)

After I made way too many changes to my system at once I lost faith in my set-up a little because I lost all I liked in my previous set, my faith in my current set-up has been fully restored, I really, really, really LOVE it again

All is good again overhere!

Great, dedicated power supply is in my opinion the best mod.

Enjoy

What a remarkable turnaround. Great to hear everything snapped into place sonically. Enjoy!

Just a thought, the dedicated power supply would have improved your old set up also.

Correct!
But with all the changes I made recently, I lost some of the magic I had in my old system (mainly by selling my EMC1) Since then I struggled with the sound of the X-03SE, this dedicated powerline cleaned it up, I guess.
Maybe the EMC1 is not as sensitive to a good power supply as the Esoteric?
All in all, my whole set benefited from this upgrade of course, but for me this now means the Esoteric can stay

Hi Gert-Jan,

Just wanted to make a point, In many forums I see so many people that keep changing there equipment to get a certain level while the basic requirements of good sound are not met yet. (I have done the same myself in the past)

A dedicated power supply, good equipment racks, speaker placement, room acoustics are so much more important then many people think.

Anyway all of this is not directed to you personally, really like your amplifier, is the Pass labs pre much better then the Mark Levinson pre you used for a while ?

Olaf
