The Weather and your Sound

This topic had a previous life but I thought I would throw it out again for discussion.

Today the weather has been cool and light showers have come and gone throughout the day. My system is sounding very, very good today. It is as if a little humidity in the air brings out the best in my set-up. The bass is really sweet today. Now this can only occur at certain times during the year. In the winter the furnace is on from November into April, and from June thru September the AC is usually running.

I do not have any ductwork running into my 2-channel room so the room doesn't get overly from the furnace or AC.

Does anyone else feel that certain weather conditions impact your system whether good or bad?

Jim.......Honestly, I have never given it any thought. I will pay closer attention now, and comment if I hear changes.

Jim, over here, its hot & humid the whole year round.

However, in the house, it can get very COLD at times due to the big "W" and when that happens, better not turn on the music as there will be a greater amplified sound over whats playing!

Well, for better times, like Marvin Gaye's "sexual healing" comes on .... lets say I get sexually healed!

Maybe you guys should take note which piece of CD gets you to this stage! Care to share? No need to be shy! Me? Most times Garth Brooks - When Tomorrow Never Comes, always works! I never over play it though cause at times, can run out of steam!

Interesting topic. I have noted, for quite some time, an apparent correlation between the weather and my system's sound-but only with respect to FM listening.

It seems to go like this:

Clear, sunny, beautiful day=poor reception (weaker signal, noisy)

Dreary, rainy, overcast day= great reception (stronger signal, quieter)

Go figure!

Anyone else notice this?

Absolutely! Since I own ESL's, the humidity level in the house affects the panels in a major way. If I forget to empty the dehumidifier, the panels tend to slow down and frankly sound like crap. On the other hand, during the winter when I burn gallons of dead dinosaurs, we have pots of water all over the house. Why I didn't put a humidifier in when I replaced the furnace is beyond me. It will be in next year along with a Hepa filter system. The dirt on the panels also tends to slow them down even with frequent hits of the shop vac.

That is a sore point around here. Why will I vacuum the speakers but not the house? So to keep the peace, I vacuum and dust every week, even the floor! Maybe my screen name should have been Hazel!!
