By the way, I read what you said about the use of the word revealing as if it is a negative thing. You're right and I have to admit I'm a bit guilty of that myself sometimes.
One thing I noticed about the MDA when I first installed it was the way it brought life in to the recording, revealing the nuances and detail with out the least bit of harshness. I remember that feeling to this day. I never new what an impact a DAC could have on a system until that very moment. Something tells me you feel as if you've reached a whole new level with your current system. I'd truly love to hear it. Additionally, I'd love to hear what your opinion would be of my system as well. Two very different approaches. How interesting that would be. Hi end audio is cool.

Interesting read indeed. I have bi-amped my MGIIIa's for several years now, and It was a revelation as well. I am currently building Maple hardwood frames for them and upgrading to tri-amping at the same time. I am adding another Acurus A200 for the ribbon tweeters and will use a Behringer DCX 2496 Ultradrive crossover. I can't wait to take this next step. Frames should be done within a week, and all needed components will be ready by then as well.
Regards, Jim

The 20.1 tweeter crossover is not readily accessible, totally enclosed. I've heard of folks doing it but from what I understand if not done correctly a blown tweeter ribbon can easily result, thus the enclosed nature of that crossover.
However, if I had the knowledge, money and ability, I'd love to hear my system with a tube Mac on the top end or even a third 501. Jim, be sure and share your findings after all those upgrades.

I'm using a pair of Magnepan MGIII's in my home theater and I am still surprised at how great they still sound ! These speakers are 23 years old. They did have a issue with the coils popping at the ends which I easilly fixed with some adhesive recommended by the Mangepan factory (cost was $3 ) and a fresh pair of cloth covers which you can buy from Magnepan for $50. In essence if you find a used pair of these speakers for a few hundred bucks, for minimal money you can make them look and sound as good as new very easilly. The only kicker is you have to have room to allow for the large size; if you do, it is a true audiophile speaker that most box speakers can not match. I think they are awesome for home theater as well. From a aesthetic stand point they get low marks but hey the lights are off when I am in the home theater

Many seem to have lost the point... good conversation, helping others and sharing ideas and of course the music. Fortunately we have AA now. Never the less, it is a good place to ask a question, just avoid the goobers.
