I didn't realize they had more gain. Thanks for mentioning.

It's interesting Dennis is moving over to 6550's in the Universal mono blocks. In my PSE amp some of my favorite output tubes are NOS Winged C 6550's. It's too bad they are no longer making them in the Svetlana plant. The Tung-Sol 6550 looks promising. Never heard those. All this talk about Universal amps has me curious what they are about.

[QUOTE=rusmeloman;923413]Hi guys!
As a result, I traded "Inspire SET and LP-3a" on Leben CS600.

Well regarded but I'll likely never be able to hear one...unless you turn it way up on a cold clear night.

Note: I’ve never had the luxury to hear 6550s in any of the Inspire amps.
Limited exposure other than KT150s in my Inspire Hot Rod Stereo amp.
We did not try KT 150s in either of the Universal offerings. Ask Straitwire if there are any lying around the shop and he could try them and report back....

Hey decooney, I don’t think that Dennis has a quad of KT-150’s right now (I could be wrong). I want to hear the PSE mono’s with KT-150’s too!
Analog’s description of the PSE mono’s sound as BIG is spot on!

In anticipation of receiving my 45 SET, I'd love to hear from those in the know about the various 45 types and sonic impressions of said tubes.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and considerations.

Okay, good to know and it confirms my request is not foo far off the rails. From a parts/cost value standpoint, I can see how the 6550 tubes are the way to go. From my own curiosity perspective, and wanting to compare to the Inspire Hot Rod stereo amp, I really want to try it if Dennis is good with shipping me an amp with no tubes. Might not be an option. Thank You Mr. straightwire

Personally I'm a big fan of globe 45s. But be prepared to spend some serious change on them....

I have been working on Dennis to use a set of the monoblock chassis to build a PSE 45. He has now said he would. Am waiting to see (and hear)
