I noticed it when you posted this music (the 5-DC Savall set) so I decided to order it. Great stuff. Thanks!
I purchased the 5-SACD box after I heard this more recently recorded 2-SACD box.
I loved it so much I just had to have all Marin Marais that was available on SACD.
I guess there are more harmful hobbies than this obsessive collecting of good music.

Isaac Albéniz - Iberia Book 3 & 4
Yoram Ish-Hurwitz, piano

I already had the first album of this excellent mini series.
This second and final SACD completes it.
Wonderful evocation of Spanish ambience.
Truly excellent recording.
Of course, it was done in my neck of the woods.

Hey Bart,

I am so proud I got you started on Turtle Records . . . They are excellent, and I'm going to have to order this one. Did you get it direct from Turtle?

Jordi Savall

Very enjoyable chamber music featuring the bass viol. The recorded sound is excellent and intimate. It's a SACD.

Here is the promotional material that accompanies the disc:

"To celebrate Marin Marais' 350th birthday, Jordi Savall has made his first complete recording of Marais' most intricate work: the Suitte d'un Goût Etranger. As indicated in the detailed liner notes, these 33 pieces offer the quintessence of the art of Marais, with fascinating titles like La Rêveuse (The Dreamer), La Singulière (The Special), La Bizarre (The Weird), La Superbe (The Proud), including the final Badinage, full of nostalgia. No other work in the baroque repertoire surpasses this fabulous 'Suitte'."
Okay, I'll try it. Savall is "on sale" at Presto.

Yeah. That's why I got a few CDs from them - to take advantage of the sale on some favorite labels. When I ordered Linn was discounted also. I like Presto Classical!

Vibrant performances with detailed sound to match. As a bonus, if one understands German, which I don't, there is a second disc on which the conductor discusses the music.

We hear him a lot on our classical station, this young piano player.
I'm glad you like it. Do you have this one, too?

Listening to . . . . Fröst - Mozart
Clarinet Concerto and Quintet - - A BIS SACD

Martin Fröst - Basset Clarinet and Clarinet
Amsterdam Sinfonetta - Peter Oundjian, Conductor

This guy is good. Heck, I can't play my stereo as well as Martin Fröst can play the clarinet. And, as is usual, this BIS SACD is so beautifully well done it makes you want to cry. . . . . I guess I have a dozen or more recordings of this music and can't think of another that comes close.

El Barto should be pleased with my choices and Februari will feature Days of Marin Marais Madness
(Not to be confused with the Grand Marais Moose Madness Festival in Duluth.)
