I am assuming you mean one of the 350 people chosen for the Early Adopter Program vs one of the true beta-testers. I am one of those fortunate participants in the second round of the EAP for the Oppo player.
The player is a terrific bang for the buck universal player IMO and I plan on keeping it - it will essentially replace three separate players in my system (a Sony SACD player, Denon DVD player, and my PS3). The picture quality is excellent for both BD and upscaling standard DVD. The PS3 has been relegated to strictly a game machine now, which I rarely have time for these days. The audio quality overall is surpisingly good for a $500 player - my impression is that it is better than anything <$1k, and reportedly very comparable to the Pioneer 09FD although I have not heard the two together. The Oppo has separate Cirrus Logic DACs for 2 channel and multi-channel output and the 2 channel sound with the higher end DAC is better. Eventually I look forward to having the MX150 to plug the Oppo into and have it do the HD audio decoding. The player still has some bugs with DVD-A, speaker distance settings, playing DTS CDs and HDCDs that are being worked prior to official release, which should be less than a month away and maybe as soon as a couple of weeks. I would be glad to answer any other questions via this thread or PM. Here is the link to the player info: http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-83/ . There is also a super long thread on AVSforum (am I allowed to reference that here? ) with a ton of EAP feedback.

JJinID...my current blu-ray player has two video processors, one for blu-ray and a separate one for standard DVD's. Does the Oppo have both video processors?
Thanks.

One more quick note about the Oppo - besides being a universal player that truly plays and decodes almost anything, it is also very fast in terms of the interface and how quickly it loads and plays various discs. I have been spoiled by the speed of PS3 up until now but I have used other players and they are painfully slow. The Oppo scores major points with me both with the speed and also the user-friendliness of its interface and menus. Here is another useful link to an unofficial FAQ that has been put together about the Oppo for your further reading enjoyment - should help answer questions and provide info about the player more thoroughly than I can but if anyone has any more for me that I can help answer please fire away! http://watershade.net/wmcclain/BDP-83-faq.html

Load times are very fast. My Pan Bd 35 and other Sony BR can't get powered up and the door open, before the PS3 has a (circa) movie playing. 1080p Picture quality on my 120 inch screen is identical by everyone who has seen my BR comparison test. I want to dislike the PS3, and dismiss it as a toy, but it does stand on its own, as a great player. Looking forward to trying the Oppo. My only dislike, is the PS3's remote control stop button's, location... Last edited by KingRT; 04-21-2009 at 08:22 PM. |
