Yep, been a speculated rumor for some time. GM trademarked the name a year ago

Combine this pricing with the implied end of front engine C7s*, ZERO news of a new generation front engine Corvette and it equals the end of the Corvette market.

It becomes a halo car sold only to the well healed like the Ford GT. Pretty serious and hopefully wrong.

* I saw a YT video this week (don’t remember where because I suffer from CRAFT) on the C7 ZL1 where a GM engineer uses the words “end of front engine C7”...

I just don’t see an ‘entry level’ rear engine C8 at $50,000. More like $100,000 maybe.

It's an all new platform so all the tooling and every other bit and piece that goes into the assembly of an all new platform has to pay for itself of course. With the sales numbers being obviously much lower if the base price is over $100k (not that C7 or any other Corvette sales numbers were ever more than 51-53,000 units sold per year in their best years), not having a platform that will sell alongside the mid engine will not make the bean counters very happy. Unless of course Chevy is planning on losing money on every C8 mid engine they sell like Acura did with the original NSX that was really meant to attract people into Acura showrooms and were never sold in great numbers.

If the buyers aren’t happy because they are in the main, UNABLE to purchase a C8 Corvette, it won’t make any stakeholder happy.

Bowling Green is a large plant to only crank out a $125K+ (essentially 2X the cost of the C7) line of automobiles. GM will have to put something else in there to cover the fixed costs of the facility or move production some where else. Won't be the first time their marketing guru's got it wrong.

That said, it is a beautiful car. But, so are most all the rest of the similar vehicles.

I doubt very much that the front engine Vette is going away that quickly.

Heading to Carlisle tomorrow so it will be interesting to hear the scuttlebutt !
