You recently had three systems. The budget Luxman CL38U SE w/the Gato Mono's. The Accuphase E-800 and now the Luxman 900 series. What is your opinion of these three setup's. All of them seem like excellent stereos.

Subject matter for another post. Many have asked me to document the OCD fueled chronicles.

Maybe one day, I shall do this!

Greg,

I was curious to know what was "missing" from the E-800 for your particular taste for you to keep it?

Cheers Monsieur!

Based on my preferences, I found the E-800 to have no engaging characteristics. It did not do as well as the Luxman L-590AX II, IMO. I had high hopes for this amp as it was supposed to rival Accuphase separates. All I can say is Accuphase is not my cup of tea. Here is a link to a review done by the person who purchased my amp. He shares the same experience.

Greg, all this tells me how subjective everything in this hobby is.
7 days ago I got brand new e-800 and compared It with luxman 590axii that I had in my system for 4 months. In my system (esoteric k-01xs and Sonus Faber Amati Tradition) to my ears, even with 25 hours on it , the e-800 sounds on a different level. The overall presentation is more substantial, with better, more textured mids and bass so textured and well defined and deep - it’s amazing. The highs are sweet and not fatiguing. Two things make the e-800 standout for me - tone - brass, guitars, strings sound so real -amazing. And another one e800 sounds relaxing without loosing details and dynamics at all levels - true reference. Luxman 590 sounds strained on a higher levels.
For the last 7 years I had the following integrated in my system:
Pass int-250 , Gryphon Diablo 300, luxman 590axii, luxman 509x, pinus hiato , accuphase e-470, pass int-60 and accuphase e-800.
Here is my ranking:
Accuphasee-800 - best overall sound and construction/build.
Gryphon Diablo 300 - great, dynamic , detailed, but lacks that great tone that accuphase e-800 has, on a low volumes loosing details, great build.
Luxman 590axii - for the price -outstanding, but sounds lighter and does not have this tone as e-800 and not as relaxed as e800 and gryphon at higher levels.
Pass int-250, liquid, relaxed, details, but surprisingly not as dynamic as 3 above and it’s bass not on the same level.
Pass int-60 - good tone, smooth but missing dynamics, still very good for the money.
Luxman 509x and Accuphase e-470 - good class ab amplifiers but nothing special
Plinius Hiato - great mids, but highs are fatiguing, missing air and noisy.
The way we hear things and synergy between all components in the system are the keys. Just my humble one.

myjazz123 - you are absolutely correct! This hobby can be very subjective and our impressions on gear are also system and room dependent - and most importantly 'ear dependent"!

Congrats on the purchase of your E-800, I am happy that you like it that much!

Cheers!

Greg

"Synergy between all components in the system are the keys."

You cannot expect to make the most out of a new amp, if all other components are not at the same or even a higher level than the amp.

The weakest link in a system determines the final result.

Thank you Greg for that concise summary.

I watched the video from the link you provide and you add a few F bombs here and there and that guy sounds a lot like Samuel L. Jackson!
