Mark, absolute congratulations. I have listened to Bill Dudleston's explanation of his approach to sound reproduction on about a 40 minute video. As I understand it his approach takes the room out of the equation and I notice you have no room treatments.

I have been in audio for a long time and listened to multiple speakers in my home with various equipment. Bill's approach to recreation of the acoustic event would not be mine though I respect it.

I'm an audio purist. A tone control is not my friend. However, it is entirely possible that the Legacy Valor and the Legacy approach to recreation of the acoustic event provides a better more satisfying more accurate more believable experience than the conventional approach.

I think that there is more intellectual honesty to Bill's approach in the Valor than buying a conventional system and then buying room correction gear. With exception of a system like Rocco's which I consider the absolute best/reference because it is engineered from the ground up (or Rob25's all Mac in a custom room), if I have understood correctly this approach to high end audio may be the best. Certainly it pleases your ears.

I can also understand why you would like to hear and compare your system to Rocco's.

Again absolute congrats. It is clear how much thought and love you have put into your system.

Best,

Charles

Charles, thank you very much for the thoughtful response and kind words!

I agree tone controls are not our friend and as it happens, the roomEQ in Wavelet is not that at all but rather an active correction of the entire Wavelaunch of every driver and speaker as a whole in all 3 realms, frequency, phase and time , all calc'ed and corrected by 56bit RoomEQ algos! In short the ideal target function of the speaker is restored by removing room interactions from the equation.

There are several contour saved profiles you can utilize (all 8 default to flat for brilliance, mid-treble, punch, etc...). One can, but does not have to use these to tame particularly harsh recording types or over/under-emphasized bass in recording, etc but it is not mandatory.

Wavelet can be used as very good all in one DAC/RoomEQ/preamp or with an external transport-DAC combo, streaming plus DAC , player w/DAC and separate preamp.

For further fun, in Wavelet you can explore the following choices on the fly using a web browser or mobile phone web interface;

- RoomEQ on off on the fly

- Stereo Unfold Array and algo enabled or disabled on the fly

- Internal A->D and D->A circuitry set to pre-ringing elimination only or full Apodizing behavior including removal of pre-ringing

- switch playback from normal phase stereo to full mono or for certain recordings choose inverted stereo or inverted mono

- inputs can be XLR, RCA, SPDIF or USB or Toslink

- outputs are XLR or RCA, or Toslink or SPDIF

- also has a Home Theater Master/Slave mode Bill uses to setup complex surround sound or Home Theater setups,...in short you can have several Wavelets chained together for full RoomEQ of the most complex multi-channel systems or home theater including all subwoofer integration!

I have used it with 4 speaker models from Bill over the last 6 years and it is truly unlike any other device I have ever seen, used or heard of...

Thank You again Charles, very much appreciate the great feedback!

As an aside,...they OEM wavelet to several other high end companies with more on the way.

I think room correction is going to be the main focus of high end audio in the future....I mean, unless some major breakthrough is made in amplification or analog/digital front ends, there is only so many ways that a low voltage signal can be transmitted to our ears. Room correction and how it's implemented (transparency etc.) would theoretically benefit every single system on the planet no matter how cheap or expensive if it's done without any signal degradation.

Well, I've always wanted to hear a pair of high end Legacy loudspeakers NOT in a small hotel room, so Mark has graciously given me the chance tomorrow. I'm gonna head up to Greenville, SC and spend the day up there checking out the Legacy Valor and Wavelet system. I'm pretty pumped, I don't have as much experience as a lot of you guys on here hearing systems all over the world. I've spend some time at Ed and Marc's homes up in Seattle, but that's about it. Jim (WeirdCuba) is still dialing in his new room and moving in, so I'll get a chance to hear his hopefully here in the next couple of weeks. Anyway, going to tote some CDs and SACDs up there and enjoy the afternoon. Will report back with what I assume will be one of the best audio systems I've ever heard.

Impressive list and some impressive sound. I’ll give a report of what I heard when I was with Mark last weekend. Needless to say the Legacy’s were impressive as well as Mark’s music collection. The best I’ve ever seen. Hands down.

You can’t really get a feel for how impressive the Elrod power and interconnect cables are until you see them in person. Pictures can’t do them justice. If you go that route, you just better have room!
