Dynaudio cherry color fading due to sun exposure

Hello! A Dynaudio Contour 3.3 in cherry that has had always its grilles on is showing some discoloration/fading due to sun/light exposure. What can I apply to remove the fading? Any oil?

Nothing you can do. cherry is one of the worst woods for sun fading.
Are they faded where the grills are not? Just leave the grills off and they will even out over time. Don't put any oil on them. Chances are they have some type of lacquer or polyurethane finish. The oil will just lay on top and make a mess. I've seen unfinished cheery fade within a matter of hrs.

American Cherry is UV photo sensitive and darkens over time when exposed.

I think the OPs point is that he has discolouration due to sunlight. I was incorrect in using the term "fading". It does darken initially when it is unfinished or has a finish that is not sealed. Once you apply a sealed type finish
it most likely has faded over time.

Walnut and cherry have very different UV sensitivities.

Walnut lightens with exposure while cherry darkens

Yes, to be more serious than my last comment, most sealed finishes employ a tint to make the underlying wood veneer look oiled. It is most likely the tint is breaking down by UV radiation.

The OP could ask Dynaudio what they use, as I'm sure they will provide advice. But I would think once it has faded, the only way to get a perfect result is to sand off the sealant and reapply - using one that is relatively UV stable. I certainly agree with your earlier comment that for Otenmsa to try and put anything on top of the existing finish is likely to make things worse.

I have experience exactly that with walnut and cherry.
