I'm not sure if I'm following you guys here. For instance, I'm not sure what, "But you will have only the Room Perfect DSP for that source" means.
But when you set up the MEN220 the source (cd player) and preamp are not engaged. Rather, the MEN220 generates it's own source material internally as the tones from which the filters are established. Further, the MEN220 has its own non-dedicated volume knob for this purpose.
Moreover, you would not even have the source or the preamp turned "on" when you program the MEN220. The power amps are "on" when you program the MEN220.
(Someone correct me if I'm wrong because my preamp is currently out of service, but I don't recall engaging it when I set up the MEN220. Right now I am simply running the source (MCD301) with variable volume into the MEN220 and out to the power amps.)
