Thanks Martin,
didn't know about this quite big level difference. Well, good to know: for the DAC comparison I'll do without room correction

Hello friends, this is my first post, Accuphase equipment owner.
One question about DG series - DG 38/48/58 - how do you connect the processor and what other types of connections have you tried ?

Right now, I/m using it between the preamp C-3800 and the monoblocks M-6000 ( all balanced XLR connections ), in this case I can use it not only with the digital player DP/DC 800/801 combo but also with other sources, eg analog inputs of the preamp.

I tried using the HS link ( DC to DG ) but went back to balanced XLR connections right after that.

Since the phono preamp (C-x7) is the only analog source in my system, it is connected directly to the DG (line or balanced input, currently line).

All digital sources are connected to the DAC (DC-x01), which serves as the input selector (six out of it's seven inputs are used). The DG is connected via HS-Link (using Audioquest Diamond RJ/E cables).

IMHO it does not make sense to first convert digital sources to analog and then go to an additional AD / DA process with the DG.

Yes, you're right - but , beside the turntable / C-27 analog setup I'm currently using an open reel tape deck and a cassette deck .
They should had thought about a processor loop in the preamp diagram, so you can use all the inputs through the room correction/voicing/equalizer and the processor to have the option to bypass the AD/DA conversion and go directly to the main correction circuit.

Provided you use your analog tape machines only for playback and not for recording,
for analog signals you can use the C-3800 tapeloop:

1) connect your analog phono pre and tape machines to any C-3800 normal balanced or unbalanced input
2) connect the C-3800 recorder rec jacks to the DG analog line inputs (both channels)
3) connect the DG analog line outputs to the C-3800 recorder play jacks (both channels)
4) for analog sources select the desired input on the C-3800 input selector
5) on the C-3800 switch 'recorder on' to on and 'recorder play' to on (both LEDs lit)
6) on the DG select line as input

For digital signals:

1) connect all digital sources to the DC
2) connect DC external DSP HS-Link out to DG HS-Link digital in
3) connect DG HS-Link digital out to DC external DSP HS-Link in
4) connect DC analog out to the desired C-3800 analog in (both channels)
4) on DC select desired digital source
5) on DC Switch EXT DSP on
6) on DG select HS-Link as input
7) on C-3800 switch 'recorder play' to off
8) on C-3800 select chosen input for DC

required cables:

analog: 2 pairs RCA (C-3800 / DG) plus 1 pair RCA or XLR (DC / C-3800)
digital: 1pc (DP / DC) plus 2 PCs (DC / DG)

Martin

P.S. There is no way around AD / DA for analog sources; the DG correction is digital.

Ivan, thx for this warm welcome !

I remember using the tape loop on C-3800 like that before, i'll try it again, thx for those details.Right now i'm using the tape loop for a pro cd recorder, used to make my own compilations out of my cds ( yes, i still use pro cdr media , i do not use any lossless format flac, wav, etc )

Since you compile from digital media, I'd suggest you use the DC digital coax or optical output to connect your CD recorder (instead of the C-3800 analog tape loop).

I prefer to use the DC as the DAC, instead of the CD recorder DAC - and anyway, in this case I'll be using the unbalanced RCA output from DC.
Thanks for your suggestions !

I just thought you'd play back from DP and record on CD recorder.
It was not my intention to suggest using the DAC of the CD recorder for listening. For listening you will of course use the DC (BTW me too).
