Has anyone ever had the opportunity to compare "lesser" vintage mono amps such as the Palmer 2A3/300B/VT52 or the push pull mono's to the full-on 300B WE mono's? I would love to hear how they fared.

Just when I think I have seen just about all there is for Shindo....along comes another one I haven't seen before: the Montrose preamplifier from Yahoo Auctions Japan.
The whole photo, large:

Just in case, please note that this preamp, like many on ebay etc., appears to have been modified. The circuit board appears to have had bits removed from the turret board and one tube is absent from each preamp ( I can't clearly see if the tube socket has been removed from the circuits).

Recent German article on Shindo Cantabile
Here is the link to a current, Aug 2015, German article on the Shindo Cantabile (EL34 PP). Unfortunately, as is usual, the general gist is possible via Google translation but full comprehension of the often philosophical German audio prose is lost.

Hi there, just very new here on AA and very motivated to entre the Shindo world.
My thought was to buy some entry level pre+amp combo and see for myself what is it all about as I have never had the opportunity to listen to Shindo gear. Being located in Europe, my only chance is to buy on the second-hand market. Then I was settled in for an Aurieges+Montille combo. But then I saw various "vintage" preamplifiers coming up for sale, like Mazeris Bellevu model 454, or Model 77, or Claret, then I found this thread. Now, the question that has appeared into my mind is how those "vintage" preamplifiers would compare against Aurieges? Then again, given so many question marks about those vintage gear being still in its original state, would it make sense for a beginner to look into those really old pieces of gear? Any advice would be much appreciated! |
