N10 doesn’t run Roon. It has a strong interface and is fine for most. It’s also a server not a DAC. The Ayre isn’t a server. Totally different products.

Is the Ayre a streamer? That's going to be the deal-maker or breaker for me when it comes to network audio. I'm not interested in ripping my library or running songs off the computer or memory.

I admit to novice status, but think I've been using an IMac running Roon core as a streamer. Today I had an unused Mac Mini modified (8 GB, 1 T DSS, new OS) for dedicated server duty, and plan to move Roon core to it. Roon treats the QX-5 Twenty as a partner. The Roon remote app runs on an iPad, and controls the action.

Very cool. Good to put to use the Mac Mini. I wasn't specific enough prior. I'd be looking to stream from services.

The Ayre is a streamer and comes with a network card built in which will take streamed services and turn them into digital signals its DAC can process. You do need to subscribe to the services and use a mobile app to direct the streamed services

Sounds like that is what you want. And the simplest setup

The N10 also will stream services using a network card (redundant unless you feel the N10 does a better job) and the N10 adds a proprietary app that manages you ripped files and services. The N10 would deliver a digital signal directly to the Ayre. It has an Easy to use and intuitive app but i believe the UPnP based server technology is becoming outdated and will over time move to services like Roon which I find sounds better and it combines all data together
