My favorite (free) cable lifters are some of those old porcelain coffee mugs that multiply in your cupboards from friends, relatives, and branded companies.
I put them upside down on the carpet and lay the cables on the 'top'. Maybe a little tape to keep them in place, or just careful positioning of the cups so they closely follow the drape of the cables. With enough choice of cups, I think they can look pretty good too As one who has had some experience with visualization of electrostatic fields, and has full carpeting, I am quite comfortable with simple measures to keep my speaker cable suspended quietly in space, regardless of nay-sayers ! I use oversized cuff locks. They are big, heavy, stable and most importantly cheap most of the cables fit trough the hole.

Is there a theory as to why these work?

I'm sure there are theories on how they work, but more important is the fact on how these make money for the manufacturers!

I made these wood blocks and mounted them to the wall behind the system for the signal cables. The power cable on the floor runs to the Denali. I can’t say there’s a sonic benefit to this arrangement, but it keeps the signal cables away from the power, reduces cable clutter on the floor, and makes vacuuming easier.
