Jewishrock web site (my neighbor). Dan Nichols & Eighteen, modern Jewish Rock concept
My neighbor who actually lives two houses down and has been in my listening room with his latest CD (believe it is his & his band, Dan Nichols & Eighteen's seventh CD).
The concept, from his web site www.jewishrock.com: "Eighteen is Modern Jewish Rock — a concept formed in 1996 by Dan Nichols and Mason Cooper. Through their individual careers in Jewish and secular music, Dan and Mason noticed that many young Jews were living in two completely different worlds — studying Torah and listening to Dave Matthews. The question arose: Why do these two worlds have to be separate? The answer that formed developed into the concept of Modern Jewish Rock — a place where Jewish values and themes are communicated through a sound with which today's youth can fully connect. Eighteen's music is about celebrating Judaism — with melodies and harmonies, acoustic and electric guitars, drums, bass, and a lot of Ruach. " The music he brought over a few weeks ago was enroute minutes away from being sent to Nashville for pressing.  I was thrilled and amazed at it's clarity, composition and not being Jewish, the story line behind the music & words. It was outstanding in every way.  I mentioned to Dan, on the spot, when it is ready for distribution, I will buy that CD. Period. Besides being a very personable and standup individual and neighbor, Dan is a true musician who loves his work and it is the nucleus of his DNA. I highly recommend a visit to his web site, which is quite exhaustive & includes his studio, which is on the 2d floor of his house. For personal reasons (family members in the local area), he travels between the home location and Nashville to practice with the other two band members. That is saying something in itself. Best Bob
