Seriously, I believe any two channel system can benefit from a quality subwoofer, particularly the Fathom f113. It will put the bottom into your audio performance that you don't even know is missing until it is there. The JL Fathom f113 is not a thumper, it is musical, and will greatly enhance your listening experience. Yes, I do see a Fathom f113 in your system, and you will thank me for this advice, once you make the purchase decision, have it in place and dialed in.
I agree without any convincing that a sub. will make a huge difference as I have already experimented. I am not sure but I think Serge has a pair of those JL subs and I agree they sounded great

OK, we'll call you crazy. Interesting the contrast between what you've done compared to me. I basically feel the same about TV/movies vs. the music. However, I've got essentially one room that's good for listening (with a piano room on the other side of the house, and a basement basically given over to the wife's studio, etc.) and watching TV.

I therefore have a theater "built into the fabric" of the family room. It's a good setup for stereo, and I've got 5.1 music (hey, have you checked out Avalon on 5.1 SACD yet?) and HT when I want it. It's flexible enough that if I wanted to scale down to stereo, I could have a system and three quarters, just needing a pre amp to complete the second system. I've sacrificed a complete Mac system with cables, etc. for the time being while building from the speakers back to the sources for 6 channels.

I know your system wasn't built in a day (but like Augustus, you've taken a city of brick & it's now made of marble, so to speak). There's more than one way to skin a cat (2 metaphors & counting!), but that's one of the things that makes the discussions here so interesting. Lots of variables and many creative solutions to our desire of getting the best sound (& vision) possible.

What you heard was a pair of F112s and a Bryson 10B sub active X/O splitting the signal at 75Hz. The 501s and SF GM's were happy not having to produce lowest octaves. The speakers sounded more coherent with less intermodulation distortion since the midbass drivers didn't have to struggle to reproduce low bass and mids at the same time.

Your subs. sounded great, I agree the integration was seamless and the imaging was the best I have heard. I assume most of that impressive imaging was your SF GM's. What made you decide on 2 F112's vs one F113 ? How are those 2 subs working out combined with your wilson speakers ?

The Wilsons have superb bass, very "analog like", round, not dry and very well controlled. I cross the F112s over at 35Hz now, they blend seamlessly at that setting with the Wilsons. The Bryston is no longer needed in this setup. I wanted to get 2 subs and run them independently so I figured 2 F112s would fit the bill very nicely in my current 14x17 room.

I do not agree. I have tried three subs in my 2- channel room over the last few years and I feel my system sounds better with the just the integrated sub that is part of my system. The subs I owned were all different sizes and "speeds." First a Def Tech 15" out of a HT system. Next was the JL F112, and last was the Martin Logan Depth i . They all moved a lot of air and wanted to rattle the room, but none sounded like real music or integrated well with any of the speakers I was using. I am sure that part of it was my lack of interest in fine tuning their position in the room.

i am not saying they do not add to the low end, I just do not hear that kind of flow end when I hear live music.

I was tempted by your recent F113 review to try it once more, but since I am no longer using a pre in my system, that is temporarily out of the question.
