I am going to have to go back to one of my local dealers this week. He has the Krell, a Wadia, one of the Esoteric separates and the MCD-500 on display. The Krell's unit even when connected all CAST never impressed me. I will take another listen.

CAST is not for everyone. I would not run a Krell CDP and a Krell preamp in my own system. A little too much for me. Those that would find synergy with both should obviously try to run CAST but I've heard from more than one guy that they preferred not running in CAST.

Sounds a bit like those wine experts who, with a sip, can tell you a wine's entire history: "This is clearly a 1972 or 1974 Napa Valley Cabernet, harvested a bit early in the season, aged in new French oak barrels stored 3 high in a cellar near a goat farm. ... The grapes were pressed by women with size 7, 7.5 and 8.5 feet - respectively. The one with large feet also had a sizable mole in her right calf. The small woman, size 7 - probably called Claire, had just been abandoned by her lover - with accounts for her more aggressive foot stomping which one can clearly detect by the slightly elevated level of tannins from over stomping."

Too funny Alberto! A wine expert I am not. I could tell you a thing or two about Vodka though.

You must be a really happy person lately having been able to audition so many top-of-the-line gears.

I've always enjoyed playing around with audio. I haven't done too many comparisons in the past 3 years so I started to feel a little out of the loop.

Have you a/b the evo 505 with the Sacd standard MK3? I laid down $3500 for the upgrade....and got rid of the Phillips transport forever. I love this player. Made a huge difference!

I have not. I've skipped much of Krell gear over the years. The 505 is a great CDP though if the system synergy supports it.
