I think they, EI, lost their suppliers in the embargoes after the war. They had a shortage of critical parts & materials and just had to shut down.

Anyone familiar with these?

http://brimaruk.com/valves/brimar-tube-range/

British-made re-issues in almost all the tubes we appreciate in the Inspire ... More affordable than NOS and probably more reliable, but I have not heard any comments about them in this forum, I believe. Of special interest are the KT-66, 6L6 and 6SN7.

Wow! I hadn't been familiar with them. While Brimar was a common designation on many classic tubes, it's ironic that it really stands for "British Manufactured American Radio".

I'll have to at least try their EL34 (my current goto - EL34/KT77)

Yes and no. Dennis gets his tubes from all over, including me. If your amp came with a 6CG7, most likely it came from my stash....

They're not British made. Chinese tubes. Whether they're made with their design specs, or simply carefully tested is not clear.

There's some info on their site about efforts to acquire manufacturing equipment including stored original Mullard equipment. FWIW

I tried to order a pair of EL34's but United States does not seem like an option, at least trying to purchase on their site.

I am not certain that many of the current Brimar tubes are made in the United Kingdom. I have heard, but cannot pin down, that some of their tubes are sourced from Russia and China, then tested to Brimar standards. If they pass, then they are rebranded as Brimar.

Consider what they write on this page: http://brimaruk.com/about-us/brimar-...onic-products/

"Brimar thermionic products are dedicated to bringing you the best valves possible – we know this is a huge task and not one to be taken lightly but each time you purchase one of our electron tubes it brings us closer to manufacturing right here in the U.K." This statement was put out 18-24 months ago, so perhaps they have started manufacturing some tubes in the UK, but this info is difficult to verify.
