I thought I would give a little update. The vet but Smokey on prescription food, wet and dry. After several months on this regiment his blood calcium levels have come into the "normal" range. Of course we will monitor the situation during his subsequent check ups.

I am so glad for you, a lot of problems in the domesticated canine world can be cured by proper diet. The price of the food has no bearing on this.

Replace 'domesticated canine' with 'human' and this statement holds true as well.

The dog in my photo is 9 years old and has eaten a raw diet since she was 3. She had her annual appointment last night and the vet couldn't believe she was 9.

Raw food is expensive, but an ounce of prevention...

They do and he was tested for that, results were negative.

Yes, I looked it up apparently by the time the is dx is made the cat looks really sick. In humans OTOH, they can have fairly subtle calcium elevations and minimal symptoms making initial dx difficult and easy to miss.
