Todd, I'm loving my Pass Labs XP-20. I think you can get a used, demo, or refurbished one close to your price range.

Hi Steve,

I had a Pass pre a few years ago (forget the model number now) and remember liking it (along with the pass amps I had at the time... a pair of Alephs). I'll put the 20 on the list of possibilities. Thanks for weighing in!

I had an xp20 prior to the P7 and it is a great pre too. Quite different sound to the P7. It's all depends upon system synergy.

Both have Home Theatre bypass, so can be integrated into a home theatre system and be used for pure 2ch.

Tsv, you could look for a Rowland Corus 2nd hand which would give you a warm, sweet sound.
