I've always wondered the same thing about Shunyata products.

In an abstract manner, I have wondered the same thing myself. Does break-in/burn-in stop, or continue.
My hypothesis for cables is it continues until the atoms align in the most efficient manner to conduct electricity, and then stops. Of course, I have no way to test or prove that hypothesis. On the other hand, speakers, being partly composed of mechanical components, never stop breaking in. So, it stands to reason that at some point any speaker will reach its optimum, and then slowly degrade.

Magnepan 3.7i Any New Info
So it's been about 3 months since this thread was started and no one is quite sure of what the upgrade gets you!
Has anyone found out anything more concrete or are there any 3.7 owners who have had the i upgrade done if so please let us know! Spoke to Wendell about it and he told me nothing and acted like I was bothering him! In today's audio world $500.00 can't buy you much of anything , not sure what the big secret is about this upgrade. Thanks audiojem |

Had a listen to a pair of 3.7i yesterday. Not long out of a box but they sounded real sweet. These were up on a pair of Mye stands with a Deqx up front and some CA digital amps. My mate Bill who is the king of setup had them sounding fantastic.
My understanding is the panels on the 3.7i are built looser so they get a richer balance out of the gate... somewhere inbetween 3.7s and 20.7s (without the actual authority or extension of the bigger brother). Just no waiting for 600hrs like you had to with 3.7s to get the balance to settle itself that bit lower. If they ease in and still have all the agility of the 3.7s with that touch weightier balance they will be a move in very much the right direction. Will have to see! While I was there we put in Supreme fuses and straight up they sounded a touch more transparent and even better integrated still. Like every Maggie the more love and attention you give them they'll just respond in kind. Just a great speaker! Mye or Sound Anchor Stands are a must on these and all the usual mods like fuses and better jumpers bring that added level of control and refinement. Not a replacement for the genuine extra hertz of the 20.7s but these are in truth amazing not just for the dollars but just for their modest, simple honesty! Nice stuff Wendell. |

Hi bud, thanks for the quick review. Question, did your dealer friend tell you about the loosened Mylar or were you getting that from my post?

harri - Bill said he was not sure what had been done but then pushed the panel and showed me how far the Mylar would go back. I mentioned I had also read your comment earlier that was the major diff. Seems to confirm that is the principal change.
I don't know if they have modded the xover as well but doubt it... primarily it sounded like the same 3.7 signature with nice tonal shift down rather than any dramatic change in its character. |

Audio.bill,
I just read through that article again. It does sound like a very noticeable improvement. I will be looking forward to Chris Martens next update on the 3.7I. $500 isn't that much for a notisable upgrade but I would still have heartburn sending them back to the factory and worrying that they would make the round trip safe. ~Mike |
