Default Ireland & France Coming Up

Well time for what is becoming our annual foray to Europe. Linda and I have never been to Ireland so we decided to take a weeks land tour there before heading over to France. Once in France we will spend a few days in Paris before we head out for another tour that will take us to Normandy, St. Michel and the Loire Valley.

Unfortunately our tour stops at the American Cemetery in Normandy the day after Memorial Day. I remember attending the Memorial Day events at the Flanders Field American Cemetery when we were living in Belgium. A very moving service.

Two and a half weeks is all I care to be away from the stereo and my brother needs to get back to work so we head back before the ladies. My wife and sister-in-law decided they will head to Florence for a few more day before returning to the US.

One night I have been looking forward to is the evening we will spend with Jerome while in Paris.

Ireland is a special place for sure. It's like going back in time when you're there, even in the cities. The only place that seemed modern was Belfast and that's because the Brits have pumped lots of $$$ into the area.

Flying in on the plane and seeing for yourself all the green fields lined with miles upon miles of stone is magical. All the pictures you see don't do it justice. Make sure to stop by the Guinness factory for a real pint of stout.

I'm jealous Jim. Have a great time!

Jim...sounds like a great trip. Enjoy and send my hellos to Jerome. I am jealous of all the delicious food and wine you will be enjoying in France (not so much in Ireland ).

Jim,
Have a great time - Bakerman mentioned Belfast, and if you get up that way Bushmills and the Giants Causeway are a nice stopover for a night. Driving from Paris to Normandy, stopping at Monet's home at Giverny, downtown Rouen (for the Cathedral and St. Ouen) and Harfleur make for photogenic points of interest, although I suspect you may have done this having lived in Belgium.

Sounds great Jim.

You going to Ireland or Northern Ireland? I'm guessing Ireland proper. Just live on Guinness. The best beer in the world!

Make sure you eat some Salt marsh lamb near St. Michel.

Howie
We will be in Ireland. My brother will extend the trip in Ireland by a day to hit Belfast, but Linda and I wanted the extra day in Paris to get caught up on laundry.

Thanks for the lamb tip.

Jim
