Best Esoteric player for transport?
I am thinking X-01 or UX-1? Only to use as transport. Have a Weiss DAC to go along with it.

The P-01 is the best Esoteric transport. Comes with an outboard power supply.

I have a P-03 Universal, and just love it. The P-01 is quite pricey, if given the choice, and money is a consideration, instead of a P-01, I get the P-03 and the Rubidium clock.

The VRDS NEO transports in lesser Esoterics aren't "bad". I currently have an X-03 SE and have owned a UX-3 and an earlier X-03. Transports are excellent. Plus, you can pick up "like new" used ones on A'gon for almost bargain basement prices.
6 Moons called the X-03 the "sweet spot in the Esoteric Line" and said that it held its own against machines costing 5X-6X more. The Absolute Sound also included it in their recommended components for a long time. The 6 Moons Review is at 6moons audio reviews: Esoteric X03-SE Sidebar comparison with P/D05 separates

Reference Audio Mods did my modification about 3 years ago and I've been very happy with the results. Even with recent improvements in CD/SACD player technology, my machine seems to hold its own in comparison with the best I've heard.
I did a big GULP a few minutes ago, however, when I looked at the RAM web page and found that they still do the mods on the Esoteric X-0 machines but at several times the price that mine was done for. Reference Audio Mods, cd player mods, audio mods, audio modifications

I am a very happy user of P03/D03 too.
Wanna buy G0Rb clock as soon as budget permitted. Don't waste money buying a player just for its transport section. Buy dedicated Transport. Good luck. |

Talk2me...why do you want to spend that much on a transport-only player? The Weiss DAC 202 has excellent jitter reduction and so you will get diminishing returns on $ spent as you go up the transport quality spectrum. I would get an Oppo to use as transport with the Weiss Dac and call it a day. If you are going to spend that kind of dosh, I agree with TOGA, get rid of the Weiss and buy one of the latest Esoterics (K-01 in the $25K range or K-03 in the $13K ish range), and you will get an excellent integrated digital player for both CD and SACD, as well as digital inputs for you to use with a PC or music server source. Just my 2c worth.
