Thanks, that's interesting.

I don't disagree with the choice of "no filter" but considering the user manual for the previous generation of players mentions this,
"Using this setting [no filter], high-frequency harmonic components will be output. If noise occurs because of cross modulation from high frequency harmonic components, for example, set “PCMF” to “FIR” or “SDLY” instead."
I wonder if this kind of issue doesn't happen with the new generation of players or it's just rare, in general.

+1 on S_DLY2 when available...

For the 4497 implementation, I have said it before,....it's not just about the chip itself or one spec thereof, it is about the implementation in total around it. Perhaps Esoteric has found a superior way to implement the total architecture and found a way to compensate for the side effects of not using the 4497's available filters.

Or perhaps they could be using a digital filter that is external to the DAC chipsets. Just a guess.
